Over 800 view traveling Holocaust exhibit

Courage To Remember at Marketplace Shopping Center

The CUJF Holocaust Education Center had the wonderful opportunity to share international traveling Holocaust exhibit, Courage to Remember, at Marketplace mall for two weeks in October. Over 800 individuals walked through this deeply impactful display; 800 individuals who will help remember this difficult history and to fight hatred in the present.

In addition to walking through the exhibit, attendees also had the opportunity to share a brief reflection on a small note and stick it to a mirror. These notes reflect hope for our world, a desire to combat injustice and promote peace.

The exhibit included a variety of special events, such as film screenings of The Pawnbroker (1964) and 999: The Forgotten Girls, musicians from the Papashoy Klezmer band, students from the Urbana High School Orchestra with Tamra Gingold, and an evening with Dr. Gingold, local Holocaust survivor

Courage to Remember was also featured in the local news - view the stories by WCIA and the Daily Illini!

This exhibit's success would not be possible without the 45 volunteer docents who gave their time to help share this exhibit with the community. With over 100 hours of combined volunteer efforts, their support allows high quality and relevant Holocaust education to be accessible across Central Illinois. Thank you to our incredible volunteer docents!

If you wish to bring this exhibit or another of the Holocaust Education Center traveling exhibits to your community, email us at [email protected] or call at 217-367-9872.
